The Certificate I in English as an Additional Language (Access) is for students starting to learn English or who have had minimal exposure to English.

22484VIC - Certificate I in English as an Additional Language (Access) is a beginner course for learners who have just started learning English or who have had minimal exposure to English. The course develops the skills for learners to satisfy their basic every day transactional needs. It provides general language education primarily targeted to newly arrived migrants and refugees who need to develop language skills to participate in a range of community contexts.

The course begins to develop skills to:


- ​identify, develop and review a language learning plan with a support person
- participate in short simple verbal transactions and exchanges
- use a limited range of reading strategies to create meaning from short simple texts
- construct short simple texts with support
- use learning/ communication technology to communicate in English


 Successful completion of 22484 Certificate I EAL (Access) requires successful completion of 8 Units:
  • 1 core unit- Plan language learning with support
  • 1 Speaking and Listening unit
  • 1 Reading and Writing unit
  • 2 Language Skills units
  • 3 electives
Educational outcomes for Certificate I EAL (Access) are as follows:
  • Plan language learning with support
  • Participate in short, simple exchanges
  • Read and write short simple messages and forms
  • Locate health and medical information
  • Identify Australian Leisure Activities 
  • Give and respond to short, simple spoken instructions and information
  • Identify and access basic legal information
  • Read and write short, simple informational and instructional texts ​

Are You Able to Access AMEP?

The Adult Migrant Education Program (AMEP) provides up to 510 hours of free English language tuition to eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants to help learn foundation English language and settlement skills to enable confident participation in Australian society. Funded Courses

CCC acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government. This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding. The Adult Migrant English Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. 

Students with Specific Needs or Disabilities

CCC encourages applications for enrolment from students with specific needs. Within the capabilities of the organisation, we will endeavour to meet the additional needs of students provided they meet the entry requirements of the course. Alternate delivery, reasonable adjustments and assessment methods will be used when and where appropriate.

Creating a USI (Unique Student Identifier)

Anyone undertaking nationally recognised training from 
​1 January 2015 will need a USI. T
he USI must be made available to a training provider before the person can receive a statement of attainment or qualification.. Read more here: Unique Student Identifier Information
