CCC: CHILDREN
CHILD CARE
Cheltenham Community Centre is a 24 place centre. We are a Limited hours type 2 service. Children can attend the centre for a maximum of 5 hours a day and 15 hours a week. The staff to child ratio is 1:5 under 3 and 1:15 over 3. The qualified staff ration is 1:15 under 3 and 1:30 over 3. All our staff qualified staff have a Diploma in Children’s Services. All our childcare assistants either have or are currently studying Certificate III in Children’s Services. All staff are Level 2 First Aid trained and are trained in Anaphylaxis Management.
Occasional Care
Occasional care is available for children as a one off session whilst parents attend appointments or take some time out. This is available in 3 or 5 hour sessions. Parents requiring occasional care can call 9583 5095 to check availability on the day they require. Occasional care is available for children 6 weeks -6 years depending on the session. Please refer to the session times for specific age groups.
Permanent Occasional Care
Permanent Occasional Care is care that is available to children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. This is a family grouping program. The values to a family grouping program are:
- Creates an opportunity for children to understand the needs and abilities of others
- Older children can learn about being responsible for those younger than themselves
- As we are all members of a family, it is important for the children to feel that familiar ‘family feeling’
- Younger children gain additional skills through observing older children, (i.e. language skills)
- Allows siblings to attend the same program irrespective of age
Pre-Kinder
Pre-Kinder is available for children aged between 2-4 years. These sessions are similar to a 3 year old kinder program but children can attend from 2 years of age. The values of an age specific program are as follows:
- Programs provide more of a challenge as they are designed to cater to an older age group, within a less
diversified age range - These programs are a more structured program encouraging all of the children within the group to participate in group mat and activity sessions
- They focus on encouraging co-operative social interaction, listening & concentration skills, cognitive and creative thinking through theme role plays, discussion groups and group participation (i.e. packing away together etc.)
- The Pre-Kinder Programs provide a great introduction to and preparation for readiness for 4 year old Kindergarten. Enhancing the development of social skills, co-ordination, language development, cognitive and fine motor skills all of which are essential preparation for Pre-School & School readiness.
How to Enrol
Children must go on a waiting list for both the Permanent Occasional and Pre-Kinder sessions of these programs. You can do this by emailing the childcare coordinator at childcare@chelt.com.au or calling 9583 5095. Once a position becomes available the next person on the waiting list will be offered the place. Please refer to the childcare schedule for session times.
